Weekend at Tim and Devin's
December 2000
Tim, Devin, and Ben got together this weekend to hang out. Devin has been in Memphis for a couple weeks, and Ben hadn't been down in a couple months, so it was about time to do a little catching up.
Friday Devin fixed us a big chicken dinner on the grill and then he started fixing us home made beef jerky. Saturday Tim worked on their new bedroom while Devin and Ben cut a little wood and put the branches on a pile for a bonfire that night.
After that it was time to light the brush pile. It was made mostly of very dry cedar and by Devin's estimate the flames were about 40 feet within just a few minutes. We were having a great time, enjoying the flames (no jokes about us being flamers, please), drinking beer, and watching the dogs...until the fire department shows up. It seems that one of Tim's neighbors saw the tops of the flames over the hill, thought his house was burning down, and called the fire department. Wasn't long before we had 3-4 fire trucks and Tim's uncle screaming down the road. In the end everything turned out OK. We were certain we would get fined for not having a permit, but everyone left without a problem. The night ended peacefully with 3 good buds standing in the cow pasture, drinking beer, and enjoying the fire. The perfect ending came to a great weekend when we woke up to the ground being covered with snow the next morning.
