Cascades
June 17, 2001
After lifting weights today, I decided that it was a beautiful day and too nice to waste away on a treadmill. I was determined to do hiking at the Cascades which is in Pembrook, VA. On my way I called my friend Rick and found out that Dave had paid us another surprise visit from TN.

So, the three of us took off for the waterfalls and scenery. This is the first time I have been when the trees were completely out and the effect of the sunlight being completely blocked on the forrest floor or the speckles of sun as it shone through and lighted the plants was beautiful. There weren't as many plants blooming as before, but all the greenery and moss was awesome. We made the hike to the main falls and for the first time since I have been hiking up there it was warm enough to actually wade in a little. Well, the water wasn't that warm. It was freezing cold and my feet got numb. Also, as someone who wears shoes all the time except in the bed, my feet are a little sore from some of the sharp edges on the rocks. It was a great trip and as usual we saw some interesting things. Dave almost caught a small trout in his hands, but it got away. Rick wins the prize as the only one to bust his ass on the slippery rocks. Click on the pic of the waterfall to see how big it is.

After the hike we were starved and went to Anna's Kitchen in Narrows, VA. The home seasoned green beans and corn, mashed potatoes, real macaroni and cheese (not the store bought cheese mix kind), pintos, pork tenderloin, meatballs, and chicken were a great end to a good hike. There's nothing better than living in the mountains and the country.
