"Where in the hell am I," I said when I got out of my truck. I didn't get out but about 5 days notice, but in August, we decided to go tp Lake Moomaw state park near Warm Springs, Virginia. I had driven two and a half hours up into the mountains and was still in Virginia. the last minute notice limited who all showed up, but we had a good time. Ken, Greg, Bill, Jay and I (Ben) met for a little camping.
We arrived on Friday night to a weather forecast of 40% rain. This Summer that has meant a sure thing. We cooked out hot dogs and sat by the fire. It was an awesome cool night up and the mountains and some R&R was in order.
Saturday Ken cooked a great breakfast and everyone split to swim, kayak, and do their own things. Unfortunately about 11:00 that 40% chance of rain became a reality. It didn't rain constantly, so we decided to take a hike which lead us up on a ridge overlooking the lake. There were some great views, but sucked that it rained most of the time. The rain didn't hold out though and that afternoon we did get to enjoy a few hours of Sun and dry weather. That night we grilled hamburgers and relaxed again around the campfire.
Sunday Ken cooked another great meal, we cleaned up camp, and all headed home. It was a short weekend, but everyone was glad to get away and relax.
