My friend Kevin D. and I had been trying to get together for lunch or something all Summer, but it just hadn't worked out. I have been working extra hours because of short staffing at work, and in the later part of the Summer, he was gone. Finally I got a couple days off and just in time because Kevin was about to start back to school.My other bud Kevin O. and I took off for WVa early in the morning, met up with Kevin, and headed to the Greenbrier Resort. We toured that a little bit. At $300 a night, I doubt I'll be staying there very much. It was extremely nice. From there we rode back to a park and met Kevin's brother Kelly and his partner Chris for lunch. No more fat free mayonnaise for me. Then we rode up into BFE West Virginia to see some waterfalls. The falls are suppose to be the second largest in the state. The weren't as good as the Cascades, but they wen't bad. They were worth the steep but short hike to them, but I'm not sure about the long drive out there. The view from the observation deck was great, but it wasn't long before Kevin D. and I decided to jump the railing and get a closer look at the falls. The mud and rocks were slippery on the way down, but the water felt good and the view was beautiful. It was a good idea. From there we rode back south and went to the West Virginia State Fair in Lewisburg. The WV State Fair is one of the good kind of fairs with lots of displays, garden stuff, animals, trucks, tractors, canned goods, food and of course...scenery. And I must say, the scenery was excellent. Kevin D. took a turn on a couple rides. Kevin O. and I were too chicken, but we made up for it in funnel cake, steak sandwiches, Pepsi, and cotton candy.
We hated to go, but tired and bellies full, Kevin O. and I headed back to the NRV. Unfortunately I had to work the next day so I had to get in bed. It was a great trip. There's more to do up in WVa than I ever thought. I might have to start making more trips up there. Thanks Kevin for having us up.
